THE PLIGHT OF INDIAN SENIOR CITIZENS

According to the census 2001 conducted by registrar general of India,India is the home of 76 million old age people who are suffering from myriad of problems. This figure is expected to reach 300 million by 2030.There is a need for a serious thought on their plights.
These senior citizens are facing problems due to increasing trend of nuclear family, shrinking living space, cultural degradation, loss of community life etc etc.According to our religious texts the age after 60 is fit for "VANPRASTHA" and it is the age of wisdom. But due to cultural encroachment and societal value degradation these old age traditions has been obliviated. As a consequence this strata of our population affected maximum. It requires immediate attention by our policy makers.
Indian parliament has recently passed a legislation which aims at ensuring maintenance to senior citizens and speedier disposal of cases related with it.The various provisions of The maintenance to old age people act 2007 such as provision of appelate tribunal, legal right to get maintenance from children, revoking of gifted property rights from children or relatives, old age home, provision of 3 months imprsonment or Rs 5000/- fine or both etc etc give some hope to this section of the society.
But state can't go away with the act only.It also has to take some responsibilty in this aspect.Indian constitution also in the article 41 gives onus on government to take care of its senior citizens.
Let us hope that this new act will provide some relief to these old and wise people. The childrens and other relatives will also take some sensitive steps to take care of their elders.

THEATRE : A KEY TO HAPPY LIFE

Theatre that is "Rang Manch" is one of the oldest medium for entertainment in India and also across the world. As it portrays different shades of life it is also called as rang manch...It is quite differnent from films in terms of intensity, colours and issues. It is the real mirror of society. It usually happens with all of us that we face lot of situations which requires our analysis and some time quick responce too.But it is not easy for everyone to do the justice with the situation due to bounded rationality and human limitations.
Here, theatre comes to rescue. As we see diffent situations beiang played by the artists we are in a better position to analyse those situations in real life.In this way we will live a happy life which is comparatively tension free and obstacles free...
Thus,"Manmauji" recommends everyone who is reading this bolg to develop a habit to go and see theatre regularly.

MEGALOPOLIS INDIAN MEDIA

We are celebrating India's 60th birthday. We are all proud of our vibrant democracy and free media. But with the past experience of Indian media,we can't be satisfied with the way Indian print media or electronic media are behaving. If we analyse the content published in National media or visual media,we find that it is highly urban biased. They are reluctant to cover what is happening in the soul of India "that is poor villages of India".
I can prove this biasness with one empirical evidence in my hand.Last year there was a fashion week organised in India's financial capital "Mumbai".To cover the whole feast around 400 media persons were present from different agencies. One thing should be noted here that this fashion week was to market cotton and khadi clothes.
Now compare it with another incidence just happening 100km from Mumabi that is "Vidharaba" the cotton bowl of India and recent hotspots of farmers suicides.Only 4 to 5 reporter were present to highlight the plight of the farmers. This is the real character of Indian so called free and fair media of Independent India.
Big media barons must ponder over this biasness. We can not only talk about the social inequality and exclusion in terms of economic and social terms but it should cover all other types of inequality and exclusion.
There is a crying need of some devoted reporters to highlight the rural cause in national media to grab the attention of the national policy makers. Then only we can hope for some equatable and inclusive policies and development.

YOU SAID LIKE THIS

This is a comment on my blog "THE CHANGING NATURE OF THE TERRORIST" from a observant reader:
In fact, the recent bomb attacks in Hyderabad and bombs 'fear' all over India is also a result of "THE CHANGING NATURE OF TERRORISTS". Why is it so that people in other countries don't allow their neighbouring countries live in peace. Since India's Independence, terrorist attacks always becomes an issue now and then and in that moment, high security is applied all over and after few days, it becomes again the same. Attacks by foreigners is possible only with the help of inland residents and such helpers should introspect themselves that what they r doing with their mother country and act accordingly.Self Introspection with necessary good and reconciliation activity would be one of the best solutions to solve the universal problem of unrest everywhere. But when man will realise the GREATER SELF???

FROM A READER'S DESK

This is a beautiful comment on my last blog "INDIA AT 60" from an anonymous but very sensible reader"
Of course Kudos to India for becoming 60 and simultaneously loosing its memory power as a symbol of getting aged. Because it is forgetting and almost most of the youth are not aware of the freedom fighters and great personalities who had sacrificed their everything for the sake of the country. Instead, we r interested again to keep ourselves back into the realms of English people by the icons of Globalisation, by getting ourselves into multinational nuclear deals and so on....Why not the top bureaucrats and politicians of this nation are not realising that America is playing its part with India as part of its neo-Imperialism policy??? Let us awake and see the depth of these policies and take urgent measures to save the middle class and the poor sections of our country.

A COMMENT FROM A KEEN READER

This is a comment on my blog "IS SHE A MOTHER?" from a sweet anonymous and very alert reader :
My dear friend, of course, SHE IS A MOTHER, and therefore, she did this heinous but justifying crime.God knows why he has created WOMAN with such an attraction that men lose their senses and behave inhumanly by physical and mental torture over woman. In such a heinous society of beast like men, a mother would definitely feel that her girl child should not face the situations that she has faced in this inhuman 'man'ly world. But may be due to her unavoidable circumstances, she found the only solution of saving her child by dropping in the river.Atleast she would be safe in the God's lap. Let me narrate a recent incident of a gang rape by policemen in an agency area where the so called protectors of the society gangraped the women of the whole village when their men went to other village for work. And you know the justice done to them!!!The women were boycotted by their own husbands and the medical reports were neutral proving the policemen innocent. Of course, this is the Indian Justice and human justice of this society. what should those women do, where should they go? Will they wish to Keep their girl child alive?????

THE PARADOX OF INDIAN RESERVATION SYSTEM

Reservation is a buzz word in India.Due to underlying benifit in it allmost everybody want to prove himself most backward to avail the advantage of reservation in admission, employment, etc. But this system has some dangerous implications which should be discussed properly.
Reservation refers to the government policy of the positive discrimination to ensure inclusive and egalitarian society. For this overt purpose no body should have complained about it.
Now let us see the basis of providing reservation. It is based on the socio-economic backwardness. It is a accepted policy to identify backwards according to the castes as suggested in mandal case.
So the conclusion is anybody belong to particular caste can avil advantage of the reservation. The biggest paradox is it is based on the status of parents.
Now take one case study. In the civil service examination conducted by UPSC in year 2006,one guy who is Superintendent of police in some district of one state of India apperas in this examination. His father belongs to OBC category. So when he finally qualified in the exam, his allocation of service was done on the basis of his parents status without considering the fact that he is a SP from last 5 years.
This type of several cases can be easily seen at several places which is not good in the larger interest of students or society.
This paradox of reservation should be tackled firmly as soon as possible to avoid social cleavage and frustartion among forward caste students.

PALESTINIAN CRISIS

The root of all the modern day problems related with the Islamic terrorism lies in middle east crisis. The jews state that is Israel has fought several wars and still in this process though in proxy form with her neighbours. She has occupied sinai peninsula, golan heights, west bank,Sheba farm and gaja strip during 1967 war.
So far there were several attempts made to sort out this problem but all futile.Recently Arab league came out with some proposals at the Arab League Peace initiative at Riyad summit. It has proposed for full recognition to Israel in return of peace and removal of settlemnet from palestine territory by the Israel.
Indian ICWR has organised conference on this issue as well which was attended by myriads of groups acrosss the world.
Let us hope that Palestinian problem will be sorted out very soon with the support of western world specially USA.Untill and unless this problem wiped out no body can be sure for world peace.
International community specially UN should come forward and provide leadership to sort out long persisting problem of the world.

community participation

There is a sleepy village in Rajasthan. It used to get hardly 2 to 3 hours of power supply. One day electricity department official came to this village and ask them to provide 24hrs power supply with one caveat.it was total check on electricity theft. These villagers were suspious about the claim. But they were ready to cooperate with them.Village communitu started vigilance on everyhousehold to prevent pilgerage.
As a consequence now this notorious dark village is getting 24hrs power supply.Rajasthan government got motivation by this unique government-community participation.it has extended this offer to 8000 villages.this experiment has shown success in those villages and now government is planning to implemnet this concept in all villages of rajasthan.
Really it is very encouraging. All other satte government should follow the footsteps of Rajasthan state electricity board to enlighten each and every village of India.

THE CHANGING NATURE OF TERRORISTS

Recent incident of terrorist attack in uk is disturbing. It is not because that it is another terrorist act in high security region but due to the nature of the people involved in it.
Recent observations of terrorist activities throughout the world vindicated the changing nature and structure of this menace. Now more and more educated and brillient people are joining these groups. The causative factors may be numerous. It used to be said that it is unemployment, poverty, illeteracy, etc are few of the potential reasons which trigger people to join destructive forces.but now it is not so.
Newspapers in India are filled with reports and life of these doctors behind the glasgow incident. We have to analyse it carefully. It is not India or Pakistan which is responsible for it.According to his mother significant changes were observed in his son when he returned from UK.
I think that it is not about region, religion or colour which is behind this transformation but it is racism, isolation, discrimination and explotation of Asean in UK or in western world which triggered them to opt this devastating path.
Everybody should sit and ponder over this issuse.so that we can find some way to eradicate this menace and make this world more peaceful and liveable.

IS SHE A MOTHER ?

Today I have gone through an article in "Hindustan Times".the report was about a mother who has thrown her four year old daughter in river hoogly from "HOWRAH BRIDGE"....She was with her eight year old son..when he cried after seeing her sister falling down, passers by got attention and they captured that insensitive lady and handed her to Police....Is She really a mother? can we imagine such an insensitive and henious act from an Indian lady...few days back there was same type of news from Benaeas where father has thrown his daughter in to the river.....
Is it the fault of that poor father who is not able to provide proper medicare to his daughter or that poor lady who may be in fear of arranging DOWRY for her marriage??? or it is a failure of our system???
We are going to celeberate 6oth year of our independence. though we have achieved many accolades in myriad of areas but few basic questions are still hounding us....we are not able to provide insurance cover and chap medicare to our citigen forget about other basic socal requirement such as education, house, food, roads etc.
thus there is a crying need to look on these issues first before compalining about others.I hope civil society will come forward to create pressure on policy makers of our country.

THE FINAL JUSTICE ON "BOMBAY BLASTS"

So finally, justice has been delivered by our TADA court on 1993 bombay blasts where more 300 people died in communal attacks from both community i.e. Hindus and Muslims.....it is said thet justice delayed is justice denied...it took 14 years for tada court to deliver justice...but we need to give standing ovation to Justice Kode to finally come with impartial judgement.
But one thing is creating trouble in my mind. The hype created by media about Sanjay Dutt....It has been proved that he committed crime so why so fuss-fuss about that.is it because he is an actor and son and bro of a politician.Media is trying to generate sympathy for him adn trying to prove that tada was too harsh for him..even few central ministers have come out in his support...it is really disturbing where more than 3 lakh people are languishing in jails waiting for trial....how can we so insensitive towards these people...no body is coming out in the favour of those poor people....one news article published in news paper reported that one guy has spent 30 years in jails for a petty crime that he stole bread from a bakery in Lucknow.....
WE need to take pause and think about these burning issuses afflicting our system.Justice should be expedited.

INDIA AT 60

Kudos to India...She is celebrating her 60th birth anniversary....In Hindu tradition this is the age for "Sanyas" or "Vanprastha Ashram"....but for a country this is a just going to be a first step of a toddler....
If we analyse the achievements of India post Independence probably we will feel elated and proud of being an Indian.Take any field ranging from agriculture, health, education, defence, infrastructure, science & technology, etc. We have myriads of successes in all these fields.
But,without having any prejudices if we review the balance sheet of India's achievements then though we will get balance in positive side but there are few areas which require immediate attention.
We are still far away to provide univarsal free education.we have largest number of malnourished children in the world.Unemployment is rampant along with corruption.Gender biasing is prevailing in every walk of life. The functioning of our temple of democracy "Parliament" is at lowest in the recent past.Judiciary is delivering justice at snail's pace.
Though future of We Indians seems very bright.Probably we will be in developed state by 2040 but if we can remove above said bottlenecks from our system then we can reach that target very soon.
