JOINING INSTRUCTIONS FOR cse-2007 BATCH

These instructions are for all persons recruited to the IPS, IFS and Central Civil Services Group 'A' who have to come to the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie for attending the Foundational Course.

The Foundation Course (82nd) begins on 18th August, 2008. All persons who have been selected and who have been informed by the Department of Personnel & Training, Government of India to report to LBS NAA, Mussoorie for the Foundation Course will be getting these joining instructions by post. They will also be getting a set of forms called "Descriptive Rolls" which they need to fill up and send to LBS NAA.

In order to make it convenient and easy, LBS NAA has hosted the joining instructions and the descriptive roll forms on its Web site. All concerned can read the joining instructions and print them out if required. They can also print out the descriptive roll forms, fill them up in duplicate and send them to the following address before 8th August, 2008 to -

2. TRANSPORT

Charleville, Mussoorie is 35 km. from Dehra Dun. There are regular bus and taxi services from Dehra Dun to Mussoorie. You may take a taxi terminating at LIBRARY POINT in Mussoorie. The taxi stand for Mussoorie is located 100 yards from the Dehra Dun Railway Station and appox. 5km. from ISBT Dehra Dun & buses are available from ISBT Dehra Dun itself. The various modes of travel available from Dehra Dun to Mussoorie are as follows:

Single seat by bus Rs. 28.00

If you are coming via Saharanpur, you can take a taxi/bus, operating between 7.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. from the stand located 50 yards from the Railway Station to Dehra Dun Bus Stand (Travel time about 90 minutes; single seat taxi Rs. 125/-; full taxi Rs. 700/- approximately).

A representative of the Academy will be at the Enquiry Counter, Dehra Dun Railway Station/Bus Stand on 17th / 18th August, 2008 from 7.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. to assist you in arranging transport to Mussoorie. Travel expenses have to be borne by the Officer Trainees.


3. RECEPTION

Please report at the Academy Reception for the Joining Formalities, which must be completed on the 18th August, 2008. These will include:-

• Depositing a sum of Rs. 1800/- towards Officers' Mess and Clubs and Societies (Details at Annexure-III).
• Submission of 4 passport size photographs in black and white/Coloured if not already sent with the Descriptive Roll. Please write your name and service in block capital letters on the reverse of each photo.

4. RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION

Residence within the Academy is compulsory. The monthly charge of accommodation is Rs. 322/- for single occupancy & Rs. 161/- for double occupancy per head (inclusive of water, electricity charges). The rooms are provided with basic furniture, mattresses, bed sheet and pillows with cover. Items you are required to bring are listed in Annexure-IV. No accommodation for spouses or family members will be provided at the Academy. Spouses and family members are NOT allowed to stay in the residential quarters of the Officer Trainees. For this reason you are advised not to bring any escorts with you when you report for joining.

5. CLOTHING

Charleville is at a height of about 2050 MSL (6700 ft.) The period from August to December is pleasant. (Please see Annexure-IV).

6. DINING FACILITIES

Dining facilities are provided in the Officers' Mess. Membership of the Mess is compulsory. The monthly Mess charges (including establishment charges etc.) come to Rs. 3500/- approximately. Cooking in the hostel rooms is totally prohibited.


7. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Extensive facilities exist in the Academy for extra-curricular activities organised through Clubs and Societies (Details at Annexure-III).

You may bring your personal equipment for games, music and photography. We encourage you to get your ethnic dresses, which can be worn on specific occasions.

8. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

(i) EVERY OFFICER TRAINEE IS REQUIRED TO FURNISH A RETURN OF MOVABLE AND IMMOVABLE PROPERTY IN THE PROFORMA ENCLOSED (Annexure I and II).

(ii) NO LEAVE SHALL BE GRANTED DURING THE PERIOD OF TRAINING AT THE ACADEMY. PLEASE SETTLE/DISPOSE OFF MATTERS REQUIRING YOUR PERSONAL PRESENCE BEFORE JOINING.

(iii) FIRST SALARY IS PAYABLE AFTER COMPLETION OF ONE MONTH OF TRAINING. SO PLEASE BRING SUFFICIENT MONEY WITH YOU.

ANNEXURE - IV

LIST OF ITEMS REQUIRED


BEDDING

CLOTHING

At all times, Officer Trainees are expected to be properly attired and should not present an unkempt or slovenly appearance.

For the stay at Mussoorie and excursions, you are advised to have adequate woolen clothing both formal (Coat/Shawl for women; Coat for men) and casual wear i.e. pullover and cardigan. Women should have either a woolen shawl or a woolen coat. Men are advised to keep either a buttoned up coat or a western style coat/blazer and a pair of warm trousers. In official/formal functions during the Foundation Course, gentlemen officer trainees would be required to wear a formal dress or lounge suite/combination with tie and lady officer trainees should be dressed in sari which is the prescribed formal dress. Tailoring facilities for suits, buttoned up coats, sherwanis, blazers and riding breeches are available both on campus and in Mussoorie town. During the office hours and in the Officers' Mess male Officers Trainees are expected to compulsorily wear tie and jacket.

The following further instructions relating to clothing should be observed by officer trainees:-

FORMAL OCCASIONS

All officers of the All-India Services and Central Services will find use of their formal dress on formal occasions during their professional training and later during their careers. Hence it would be advisable to get the formal dress stitched as early as possible.

For formal occasions, the prescribed formal dress is as follows:-

FOR WOMEN

FOR MEN

(i) Black or white sherwani with white chooridar pajamas; or
(ii) Black or white buttoned up coat with black or white trousers;
(iii) Black socks and black shoes.

IN CLASS

All Officer Trainees are expected to be well groomed and neatly and cleanly attired according to the weather. No jeans shall be allowed during academic hours. Casual or frivolous attire shall not be worn.

Only formal leather shoes or sandals in the case of women may be worn in classes, in the main Academy square, Officers' Mess, Lounge and Library. Sneakers, sports shoes and tennis shoes may be worn only as a part of PT/Games dress. Use of bathrooms slippers is restricted to the residential area. Shoes with rubber soles are preferable due to the topography of the area.

FOR PT/YOGA: PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING:

WOMEN (a) Two pairs of white salwar and white kameez/one Academy Track Suit
(b) Two pairs of white socks and one pair of good jogging shoes with adequate cushioning for road running.
(c) * A riding hat and pair of riding breeches; riding shoes or riding putties with shoes with laces (also available locally)

MEN (a) Two pairs of PT dress which includes Academy T. Shirts, shorts and socks/one Academy Track Suit. Also one pair of good jogging shoes with adequate cushioning for road running.
(d) *Riding gear as for women (also available locally)

NOTE (i) T-shirts and track suits with the Academy logo and colours can be purchased at the Academy at the time of joining.


TREKKING

You would be required to go on a 10 days' trek during the Foundation Course. The treks touch a height of up to 15000 ft. above MSL. The equipment required for these Treks is listed below. Items marked with an asterix (*) must be brought by you (they are also available locally). The other items can be hired at a nominal cost from the Trekking Store at the Academy.
